The Process

When I begin a piece of art I pull a gouache mono-print. On the left is an example of such a print. I then study the piece to find strong compositional areas and decide how best to accentuate them. The choices are color removed or color added. Color is removed with water, brushes and erasers. Color is added with colored pencil. In this case I chose to both remove and add color. The finished piece is on the right. The amount of time varies with each piece, but his one took approximately eight hours to complete. (20 x 26 in.)
